Do Touch me on my Studio

7 Sep

Back in April 2010 there was a magic moment in cyberspace because of that whole circus in the Studio which basically redrew the cultural lines in South Africa between those who could laugh at themselves and those that couldn’t<– Sorry for you. Anyway since we have a different sort of Them versus Us debate in Botswana we will move swiftly away from it because there is more to life than paying for the sins of the fathers.

The most amazing thing happened, the incident went viral (as in it was Facebooked to death) and a handful of musical clever clogs got on top of that band wagon real quick. JR was innocently making his circle beega when his tune joined the melee… guess what more power to him. Old dinosaurs got a mini resurgence, though probably not in the way they might have liked. And total unknowns (to us anyway) also got some play as well… and that my friendos is the power of the internet…

And then we come to the crux… like why don’t we ever see stone cold hilarious items like that coming from Botswana artists. You know musicians and videographers just making their art ride high off the back of some genuinely entertaining things that happen in this country and is officially on record specifically because it is in the public domain. I would have paid real money to see a YouTube video of Botswana’s president dancing at a political rally once and edited to whatever the current song of the hour was, probably something off of  Vee’s Zaza 2010 album, or MSK’s O nketsang.  Anyway… just a thought.

Here is another thought; the internet is your friend, artists.  Maybe y’all need the likes of  Intellect in your lives. He was instrumental in putting HSP, a Botswana hiphop outfit in direct touch with the world market via the internet. Seriaas! Go on Amazon or Nokia’s Ovi store and check it out. Go on just click the links, there isn’t much more article left to read. That’s the beautiful thing, our artists don’t need to go there to be there… simply because of the internet, but that doesn’t stop the money from coming here if done right you understand.
